John Ferguson
Dr. John Ferguson has been a professor of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Dallas since 1982, retired Emeritus Professor since 2021. He is a Founding member of the Summer of Applied Geophysics field course in 1982 and now Co-Director and President of the SAGE 501-c3 non-profit corporation.

Dr. Ferguson became interested in Earth Science as an undergraduate physics major at Wofford College through exposure to geology in the field with geology elective courses. While working on a master’s degree in Geophysics at the University of North Carolina he was employed by the USGS to do seismic and gravity fieldwork. Between UNC and a PhD program at Southern Methodist University he worked as an Engineering Geophysicist in a large engineering company and did fieldwork both in the United States and in the Philippines. This early career field experience was formative and has shaped his approach to geophysical education as a university professor.
