Mr. Shinpaugh is a Senior Geologist with TVA Dam Safety’s Geotechnics group, supporting the organization’s efforts to maintain safe and reliable operations of TVA’s 49 hydro projects. He holds a B.S. in Geology from the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga, an M.S. in Geology from North Carolina State University, and is a registered Professional Geologist with the state of Tennessee. He began his career with the US Army Corps of Engineers in Savannah, GA, performing geotechnical investigations for various structures, including dams and levees. Upon receiving his graduate degree, he worked for Chevron’s San Joaquin Valley Business Unit in Bakersfield, California, taking roles in asset development and operations. At TVA, Mr. Shinpaugh leads the design and execution of foundation investigations, manages routine projects, and supports the Risk Program as a Subject Matter Expert for risk assessments and risk-informed decision making.
