Nicholas W. Hayman became the Director of the OGS in July of 2020, coming from a basic-research background in Geology, Geophysics, and Marine Sciences at UT Austin and the National Science Foundation. Dr. Hayman has only worked briefly in the oil and gas industry as an intern at Chevron, but has had projects with Shell, Petobras, and EOG focusing on the effects of rock deformation at a wide variety of scales. Dr. Hayman and the OGS are working with the state of Oklahoma, DOE, industry, Native-American tribes, and a range of societies to coordinate the rapid deployment of Carbon Management, the Hydrogen economy, and critical-minerals resources.
