Postdoc, U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Stennis Space Center
Dr. Redwanur "Rahi" Rahman
Dr. Md Rejwanur “Rahi” Rahman is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Geology and Geophysics section at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Stennis Space Center, supported by a National Research Council (NRC) Research Associate fellowship. Dr. Rahman completed his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2025. His doctoral research focused on integrating localized physical measurements from Portable Free-Fall Penetrometers (PFFPs) with continuous geophysical data from CHIRP sub-bottom profilers to automate sediment classification and map seafloor erodibility. He has led major offshore fieldwork campaigns across Sydney Harbor (Nova Scotia), Cedar Key (Florida), and Chesapeake Bay (Virginia), and his work is published in leading journals such as the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering and Applied Ocean Research. At NRL, his current research builds on this expertise, focusing on developing autonomous, UUV-based seafloor sensing frameworks to estimate near-surface geotechnical properties in real time.
