Shari Kelley


Shari Kelley is a senior research scientist at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, a research division of New Mexico Tech. She has worked for the Bureau for 25 years managing the geothermal and geophysics programs and making geologic maps of volcanic fields in New Mexico. She served as an expert witness at committee meetings during the New Mexico State Legislative sessions in 2023 and 2024 that led to the passing of House Bill 91, which established funding for grants and tax incentives to promote geothermal development in New Mexico. She received a state appropriation to establish a geothermal education and research center at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology. She is working with faculty in the Petroleum Engineering Department to establish a geothermal certificate program at New Mexico Tech.
