WORKSHOP
W-8: Critical Minerals and Rare Earth Elements (REEs): Technologies and other Considerations
Friday, 21 August | 1:30 p.m.–5:00 p.m. | TBD
Ensuring a stable and sustainable supply of these resources is increasingly recognized as a matter of national energy security and economic resilience. However, conventional mining of critical minerals often faces major technical and environmental challenges, including low ore grades, complex host formations, and surface disturbance. These constraints motivate the development of innovative subsurface extraction strategies, such as in-situ leaching (ISL), that enable resource production with minimal environmental footprint.
This workshop will review case studies and advancements in methodologies covering instrumentation, exploration, development, safety, etc.
