Baryony Richards

Dr. Bryony Richards is, at her core (pun intended), a research scientist at the Energy & Geoscience Institute (EGI) at the University of Utah, where she leads investigations into critical mineral exploration and the characterization of legacy mine waste. Her recent work applies advanced imaging technologies, including spectral imaging, remote sensing, and novel methods in borehole optical logging, to unlock the resource and environmental potential of historical tailings deposits. With a career spanning four continents, she brings a uniquely broad toolkit to the field: from kimberlite research and copper exploration across southern Africa and Namibia's remote Kaokoland region, to cutting-edge mine waste characterization in the American West, all in pursuit of practical solutions at the intersection of economic geology, sustainability, and the global critical minerals supply chain.
