Acknowledgement on Travel Challenges for International Attendees

The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), and the Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM) recognize the evolving travel landscape and its potential impact on our global geoscience community considering the new U.S. travel policy affecting citizens of several countries.

We understand that some of our international colleagues may face challenges in securing a visa to attend the International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & Energy (IMAGE) 2025, scheduled to take place in Houston, Texas, 25–28 August 2025. While SEG, AAPG, and SEPM cannot influence or expedite visa decisions, we remain committed to offering support where we can.

For all registered international attendees, IMAGE will continue to provide official invitation letters upon request. These letters may assist with visa applications but are not a guarantee of visa approval, which remains under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State and local embassies or consulates.

In 2024, IMAGE welcomed attendees from more than 70 countries, including those affected by the current policy. While the number of participants from these newly listed countries was small, every attendee is a valued member of our community, and we are here to offer guidance throughout the registration and visa process.

We encourage any potential attendee facing uncertainty to reach out to our registration team directly at imagesupport@aapg.org or tagnew@seg.org with questions or concerns.

SEG, AAPG, and SEPM remain dedicated to fostering an inclusive and collaborative global exchange of geoscience knowledge and innovation. We appreciate the continued support and engagement of our international colleagues and will do our best to assist within the limits of current policy and regulations.
