Sarah Forbes
Sarah M. Forbes is the Director for Carbon Management Technologies at the United States Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy. A member of the career Senior Executive Service, Sarah leads the Department’s research and development on hydrogen with carbon management, point source carbon capture, carbon transport and storage, carbon conversion and carbon dioxide removal. Prior to her current position at DOE, Sarah served on a detail; assignment as the first Director for Carbon Capture Utilization and Sequestration (CCS) at the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). Sarah also served as senior associate at the World Resources Institute (WRI). During her time at WRI, she led all aspects of an expert stakeholder process resulting in two seminal best practice guidelines documents for CCS. Sarah’s experience includes testifying for US congress on CCS, shale gas and clean energy cooperation. She has been instrumental in the development of US, Canadian, and international standards for CCS. Sarah began her career at the National Energy Technology Laboratory, working on CCS during the R&D program’s formative years, now more than 25 years ago.
