Shuhab Khan
Dr. Shuhab Khan is a professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Houston, where he has worked for over two decades. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Khan is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and has received the Fulbright Specialist award in both 2019 and 2022. He has published more than 100 articles in leading peer-reviewed journals. His research has been funded by several organizations, including the National Science Foundation, the Academy of Sciences, NOAA, USDA, American Chemical Society, state agencies, and oil companies. Dr. Khan’s recent research interests include: 1) tectonics and active faulting; 2) critical minerals and bedrock studies; and 3) coastal erosion and resilience. He employs a range of advanced technologies in his work, such as multispectral and hyperspectral remote sensing, LiDAR, InSAR, and drone-based sensors. In addition to his research, Dr. Khan serves as a graduate advisor for the geology and geophysics program. He teaches several popular courses and has received numerous awards for his teaching and mentoring of students. He is also actively involved in public outreach, providing expert insights on geological hazards through local and national media outlets.
