Shuhab Khan
Dr. Shuhab D. Khan is a Professor of Geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Houston, where he also serves as the Graduate Advisor for Geology and Geophysics. He earned his Ph.D. in Geosciences from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2001, following earlier degrees from the University of Peshawar in Pakistan. Dr. Khan specializes in tectonics and geological remote sensing, employing advanced geophysical and remote sensing tools to address critical geological and environmental challenges. His current research focuses on critical minerals and bedrock studies, coastal erosion and resilience, and tectonics and active faulting. Throughout his career, Dr. Khan has received numerous accolades, including the Fulbright Specialist designation for work in Pakistan and Turkey, and multiple teaching excellence awards from the University of Houston. He has published extensively, with over 100 scholarly articles, many co-authored with his students, reflecting his commitment to mentorship and collaborative research. His work has contributed significantly to understanding geological processes and environmental impacts, such as the effects of Hurricane Beryl on Texas coastal systems and the detection of microplastics using hyperspectral remote sensing.
