SEG Development and Production Luncheon

Thursday, 28 August | 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. | George R. Brown Convention Center, Room 330

Topic 1: Continuous improvement and value maturation of 4D seismic in mature fields (Speaker: Maria Tatanova-Malhaire)

  • 4D seismic technology can be valuable throughout the lifecycle of a producing field, though the magnitude of its impact evolves over time. Early in the field’s life, it provides key insights into reservoir behavior, reservoir extent, and connectivity. As the field matures, it influences the water flood rates and targets of final infill producers. Late field life presents particular challenges and opportunities for 4D seismic. With continuing decline in production, well placement optimization is essential, as there is less tolerance for any uneconomic activity. Continuous improvements in 4D seismic data acquisition and processing technologies enable more detailed and confident interpretations of reservoir changes. However, the necessity to remain commercially viable requires a fresh look at survey design and processing to manage costs. This talk will feature a global outlook of case studies from mature fields with stacked sands, characterized by an abundance of complex, interplaying 4D signals. These present plenty of interpretation challenges in order to translate the data into the insights that inform business decisions.

Topic 2: OBN for a passive margin? The streamer to seafloor transition story in Guyana (Speaker: William A. Burnett)
