Cryogeophysics: Geophysical Characterization in Cold Regions Panel

Wednesday, 27 August | 1:10 p.m.–2:40 p.m. | George R. Brown Convention Center, Near Surface Pavilion, Exhibition Hall, Booth #1111

This panel focuses on the use of near-surface geophysics to support site characterization, infrastructure development, and engineering design in Arctic, alpine, and other cold-region environments. Panelists will discuss applications of geophysical methods—including ground-penetrating radar, electrical resistivity, seismic, and electromagnetic techniques—for mapping permafrost extent, identifying subsurface ice, assessing ground stability, and monitoring freeze-thaw processes. The session will highlight both field challenges and innovative solutions relevant to working in frozen ground and seasonally dynamic terrains.
